SDO-LED / SOL-TM39 – Optical LED Signal

The Optical LED Signal (SOL/SDO) is a high LED signal (green yellow red) that can be used instead of the dichroic mirror type signals.
In its third version, the optical LED signal, designed and manufactured by Tecnologie Meccaniche, is an absolute innovation in the railway signaling sector. For the first time, LEDs have been used for first-class railway signals instead of traditional incandescent lamps.

The optical LED signal is an innovative solution that increases the luminous efficiency of railway signals and significantly reduces the maintenance work.

The LED optical signal consists of an optical unit and a power supply unit and is available in all possible combinations for railway applications. Careful design and development work over time has made it possible to reduce the overall dimensions to make it fully interchangeable with existing dichroic mirror (SDO) railway signals, whether housed in aluminum (RFI 825/460) or polycarbonate (RFI 825/462) covers. All light emission characteristics (intensity and color components) are guaranteed within the required standard. The SOL is also compatible with all external devices normally installed in the system (differential detector (DR), flashing light, encoder).

The optical signal from the LEDs reliably acquires the input signals on the basis of which the correct aspect is to be switched on. It also checks the integrity of the LEDs and signals any anomalies by generating a reduction in current absorption that triggers the intervention of the external Differential Detector.

The LED optical signal is a dSIL4 approved device by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and SIL4 classified according to CENELEC EN 50129.

It complies with the RFI/TC.SS.TB/009/334 specification of July 14, 2003.
